Spring Cleaning

New Year was all about compensating. Compensating for not whipping up a Christmas feast.

Guilt can be so fleeting.

I woke up early and began with the Playroom – resorting and spring cleaning. I can confidently say, order has been restored.

The puzzles have been organised

Spring Cleaning tips IMG_1035I also sorted out the kids closets and before you know it I had done my wardrobe, Babycakes’ Floor-drobe, whizzed through the living room, kitchen and hallway making multiple trips to the Recycle center.

Have I told you how much I abhor clutter? I have none. We are clutter free Chez-Butter. Ask Babycakes. Too many times he’s frantically searching for that assessment that he kept “safely” in the scrap heap pile of papers “somewhere”… Did you see it? I really need it, today! It was in the bag of junk stuff I kept in the corner of the room? Did someone throw it out? Did someone clean in here? Betty, are you listening? Yes, I know, but this is not the time to be harping on about filing important documents in the Important documents cabinet…

If you’re allergic to clutter like me you know what I mean.

I like everything in my space to have a purpose and a place. If I haven’t used it in over a year, I probably don’t need it, seeing as my existence did not come crashing down in a whole 365 days without knowledge of its presence. No bags stuffed in cupboard, lots of nicely labelled boxes. No basement filled with stuff to one day give away. Nothing. My storage unit has current usable luggage, christmas tree/decorations, beach lounge chairs and umbrellas, a couple eskies and that’s it. All neatly arranged so I can view it all.

What would life be without order?

After all that, I had to make sure my team of elves were adequately fed and watered.

Someone asked if I would post a recipe about Jollof rice. After #Jollofgate and the Jamie Oliver fiasco, I hesitate to commit to anything formally on paper. But my good Friend Mamazee is an Aficionado regarding all things African Cuisine… let’s leave it to the professionals.

As promised the recipes of the week;

I also got a message asking what camera I use. I am proud to say all pictures are taken with my phone. And all dishes you see are plated up ready to eat immediately. That’s the extent of my food-styling abilities…

Any of you have any tips for food-styling/plating? Are you a de-clutter queen? And of course Happy new year.

xxx B

I’m Betty, and Butter is a story of a full-time suburban SAHM ( Stay-At-Home-Mom) who practices Medicine in her spare time. My life heavily revolves around Babycakes, my husband, Bobby and Ben, my children and an acerbic tongued pug D’Artagnan.

    I can soooo relate to “I like everything in my space to have a purpose and a place”. If only I can get my babycakes to follow suit. Sigh!
