The Best Ways To Cure A Hangover

Ladies, are you getting ready for the party-scene this festive season? In addition to your party dress, stilettos and red hot lipstick, it is important to put just as much prep into your pre-alcohol routine. If you simply must embark on a seasonal bender, let’s face it we all do, whether it’s with your work buddies, girlfriends or newly acquainted ladies from school drop offs and pickups, here’s how to do it right and avoid “hangover face” the morning after. Goodness knows we don’t want to scare the out of Nosy Nora across the road when we saunter out to pick up a package from the Hot delivery guy.

As author and hardened boozer Sir Kingsley Amis puts it in Lucky Jim, there are some mornings when you wake up feeling like your mouth has “been used as a latrine by some small creature of the night, and then as its mausoleum”. On such occasions, while solid evidence of what actually happened the previous evening may be thin on the ground, there are many ways your body will helpfully remind you, from the classic (shooting pains in the liver) to the less often discussed (sallow, dehydrated skin).

From bananas, eye cream, milk thistle and eye cream,  the list of essential remedies to help offset the effects of that vengeful hangover and ensure you end 2015 with a deceptive look (if not feeling) of sobriety are all in the small details.

Ladies you all know that alcohol is a powerful diuretic, which means it zaps moisture from the skin and fluids from the body, leaving you weak, lethargic and, well, hungover… EEEK! If you’re going to drink, it’s therefore important to replace the essential salts that have been pushed out of your system, especially potassium and magnesium. You can do this by making sure that your very last shot of the night consists of some H2o or as much coconut water as you can swallow. Remember girls, you are the one most likely to be up with the kids the next morning, unless your Babycakes is one of those top notch men who takes care of the kids allowing you to sleep in the morning after. Who are those women who have this man in their lives????

Also remember “Panda Eyes”. Puffy eyes and dark circles and old mascara are part and parcel of the remaining details from the night before. Make sure you remember to remove all your eye make-up and then apply some night time eye gel before hitting the hay. Cleansing and rehydrating before you crash will ensure your reflection is considerably less alarming to Babycakes in the morning. Let’s face it, you always want to look sexy in his eyes… So Panda-No.

After a heavy night, your liver will still be working overtime the following morning – and possibly well into the afternoon. Make sure you take the time to recover this vital organ, sleep if you can, when the babies are sleeping! Try detoxing with some yummy green smoothies like my green goo. I don”t know about you, but something deep inside me, apart from guilt, screams our for 72 hours of strict healthy eating after a night out.

I have at least three Christmas parties to attend this December, how many are you attending? What are your best tips for managing a hangover for this festive season?
